Mengatasi Rasa Cemas

 

Dalam musim semi tahun 1871, seorang pemuda membuka buku dan membaca 21 perkataan yang kelak akan sangat berpengaruh terhadap masa depannya. Mahasiswa tingkat terakhir di Montreal Hospital itu sedang merasakan berbagai macam kecemasan menjelang hasil" ujian yang akan ditempuhnya dalam waktu dekat. Dia cemas akan nilai"nya, dia cemas tentang apa yang akan dikerjakannya nanti setelah lulus, dia cemas tentang pekerjaannya kelak dan merasa cemas tentang bagaimana cara dia memulai kehidupan setelah keluar dari Montreal Hospital.

Dua puluh satu perkataan yang dibaca oleh mahasiswa tersebut ternyata menolongnya. Barisan kata" yang terdapat dalam kalimat tersebut dia pahami sehingga pada akhirnya menjadikan dirinya sebagai dokter yang paling termasyhur dalam generasinya. Kemenangannya atas rasa cemas mengantar dirinya mendapat gelar Regius Professor (professor yang diangkat oleh lembaga" tinggi kerajaan) untuk Ilmu Kedokteran di Universitas Oxford. Dia juga diangkat sebagai bangsawan oleh Raja Inggris.

Nama pemuda tersebut adalah Sir William Osler dan inilah dua puluh satu perkataan yang pernah dibacanya pada musim semi tahun 1871 itu. -Dua puluh satu perkataan yang dikutipnya dari Thomas Carlycle yang berbunyi, 

"Our Main Business is Not to See What Lies Dimly at a Distance, but to do What Lies Clearly at Hand"

Yup!!  Sumber Kecemasan yang kita alami banyak diawali dengan pikiran" negatif tentang keadaan diri kita pada masa yang akan datang. 

Sekalipun kita sebenarnya tahu persis bahwa pemikiran tersebut masih samar, akan tetapi karena kita mengkorelasikan keadaan di masa mendatang dengan kemampuan yang dimiliki saat ini.. alhasil kecemasan lah yang kita dapatkan.

Dalam dua puluh satu perkataan tersebut, tercermin sikap untuk memusatkan pikiran dan semangat untuk menjalani hari ini dengan sebaik-baiknya dan  mungkin ini bisa menjadi jalan terbaik bagi kita untuk mempersiapkan masa depan yang lebih baik.

Orang" yang mengaku diri mereka sebagai Hacker tahu betul mengenai jargon yang sampai saat ini dianggap mainfesto seorang hacker. Ndak di luar negeri, ndak di sini.. yo podo ae.. 11-12.

Tulisan The Mentor memang dianggap mencerminkan semangat berikut kegeraman yang mewakili aspirasi kaum undergound di dunia maya yang keberadaannya sering dikecam oleh orang" di dunia nyata.. terutama oleh orang" yang menganggap kegiatan hacking bisa membahayakan dan merugikan mereka.

Tapi ingat, sedalam apapun kita bermain dalam komunitas underground dunia maya, kenyataannya kita juga merupakan bagian dari masyarakat dunia nyata. Kita butuh bersosialiasi dengan sekitar kita..


Sebebas apapun ideologi yang kita anut dalam dunia maya, tentunya yang kita harapkan, kebebasan tersebut menjadi sebuah bentuk kebebasan yang bertanggung jawab. Kebebasan yang dapat menjadi sarana kita dalam berekpresi dan menyalurkan kreativitas tanpa merugikan orang lain.
